The somewhat mysterious Fuchsia OS is not going to replace Android. Google creates a bit of clarity about the new operating system.
Fuchsia OS will not replace Android for the time being
Google is publicly working on its new operating system Fuchsia, but at the same time, the company remains quite secretive about its plans. In an interview with The Verge, Hiroshi Lockheimer from Google finally provides more clarity.
Three years ago we first heard about Fuchsia: a new operating system that could solve a lot of problems that Android has. An ideal successor. At the end of last year, it turned out that Huawei Fuchsia is already testing. But it will not go that fast.
Lockheimer refers in the interview to people who see Fuchsia as the new Android or the new Chrome OS. “Fuchsia is not about that at all,” says the senior vice president of Android and Chrome OS, among others. Fuchsia appears to be more of an experimental place to work on the best that operating systems can offer. “The things we learn from Fuchsia can be included in other products.”
Lockheimer states in the conversation that Fuchsia is not so much made for smartphones. “Everyone now assumes that Fuchsia is meant for smartphones, but what if it can be used for other things?”
During another conversation on Google I / O, Lockheimer said that Google is thinking of the Internet of Things for Fuchsia, among other things. “There are a growing number of devices that need an operating system.
