“Honor 20 Pro is next smartphone with periscopic zoom lens”

It is not surprising: Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei. That company released the first smartphone this spring with a periscopic zoom lens, the Huawei P30 Pro. The camera of the Honor 20 Pro seems to be based on the same technology, a photo of the device that PlayfulDroid has shared suggests.

On the photo, we see a black Honor 20 Pro. The Android smartphone has a small protrusion at the top left for three camera lenses. The upper one would be the same 5x optical zoom lens from the Huawei P30 Pro. In addition, there is a primary camera with an unknown number of megapixels and a wide-angle lens. The device also has a Time of Flight sensor, which measures depth and is used for portrait photos or augmented reality apps.

With a periscopic zoom lens, you can zoom in up to 10x without quality loss in the image. In addition to the Huawei P30 Pro, only the Oppo Reno is equipped with this technology. The absolute zoom record lies with Huawei: that manufacturer combines optical and digital zoom to offer a total of 50x zoom in the camera app. The Honor 20 Pro probably also has that option.

Difference between Huawei and Honor

While parent company Huawei wants to appeal to as many consumers as possible, Honor focuses specifically on younger users. Honor smartphones are a bit cheaper than Huawei devices and usually have a more striking design. However, the hardware is largely comparable to Huawei’s smartphones. That is why Honor is also a good choice for bargain hunters. Earlier this year the company already released the Honor View 20, a powerful smartphone with a suggested retail price of only 499 euros.

Honor is organizing an event in London on 21 May. There, the company will probably not only present the Honor 20 Pro, but also the Honor 20 and 20 Lite. All three devices are expected to be available in the Netherlands from June.
