HTC Android 9.0 updateHTC will release Android Pie for the U11, U11 Plus, and U12 Plus, but never clearly stated when users could expect the update. That is now changing: the manufacturer has announced that the first update will be available HTC Android 9.0 update at the end of this month.

HTC Android 9.0 update is coming soon

HTC announces the schedule for the Android Pie update via Twitter. As you can see in the image below, the HTC U11 is the first to be updated. That update is scheduled for the end of May, while the U11 Plus and more recent U12 Plus have to wait a little longer.

The U11 Plus will be upgraded to Android 9.0 at the end of June, the U12 Plus mid-June. HTC does not mention specific release dates, but we now know that users of the phones do not have to wait very long anymore.

HTC is quite late with the Android 9.0 updates and so far only updated the U11 Life, an Android One device. Whereas almost all manufacturers have now updated their high-end smartphones, the Taiwanese company has fallen considerably behind. That is striking because HTC belonged a few years ago to the manufacturers that were the quickest to update. Also noteworthy: last year ‘s Desire 12s and U12 Life don’t get the upgrade at all and get stuck on Android Oreo.

Android Pie introduces various innovations, including Digital Well-being to map your smartphone usage. You also get more control over notifications and Pie contains a new gesture control. HTC users can also get started with the Adaptive Brightness and Adaptive Battery feature, which improves the battery life of your device.
