The iPad mini 2019 is in many ways similar to its predecessor and the 9.7-inch iPad 2018, but with smaller screen size. That model is more than sufficient for most people and has a fast chip with a good screen for an affordable price. The iPad mini 5 offers similar specs but in a smaller case.

# 1 Design and screen
The design of the iPad mini 5 remains the same as the current model. The mini 5 gets a 7.9-inch LCD screen in an aluminum housing, with the home button and Touch ID, so the iPad is well protected. The screen is given a fingerprint-resistant coating, but the screen is probably not laminated. That means that there is some space between the glass and the screen. Apple may also not use an anti-reflective coating to keep the price low. Apple did this before with the iPad 2018. The colors are the same as the 9.7-inch iPad, namely silver, space gray and gold.
# 2 Cameras
With a front and back camera, you can make FaceTime conversations and play AR games. The resolution of the cameras is stuck at 8 megapixels for the outer camera and 1.2 megapixels for the front camera. These are the same resolutions as with the most recent 9.7-inch iPads and the previous iPad mini. You don’t usually use an iPad for extensive photography, so this resolution is sufficient for simple camera applications. There is also no LED flash on this model.
# 3 Performance
In terms of performance, the iPad mini 5 does get a major upgrade. Apple opts for an A12 Bionic chip in order to align the new iPad mini with the other iPad models. With the A11X chip, a new iPad mini can go many years ahead and that is more than enough for most applications, including AR, iPad multitasking and checking your mail. The faster chip will also be needed for possible support of the Apple Pencil.
# 4 Apple Pencil
To bring more attention to the Apple Pencil, Apple made the iPad 2018 suitable for the drawing pen. This is ideal for education because it allows students and students to draw and write more accurately on an iPad. For schools that prefer a smaller model, an iPad mini is more suitable. It would, therefore, be logical for Apple to make the iPad mini 5 suitable for the Apple Pencil. This has not yet been confirmed, but given the earlier developments with the 9.7-inch iPad, this would be a logical addition. You can also use the extended writing and drawing apps better on an iPad mini, which is a lot handier and therefore easy to carry thanks to its small size.
