Download: Motorola Moto G6 gets Android Pie update

Motorola Moto G6 Android Pie updateOwners of the Motorola Moto G6 have had to wait a while, but finally, the Motorola Moto G6 Android Pie update is available for the device. That means that the full Moto G6 series now runs on the most recent Android version.

Motorola Moto G6 Android Pie update

Motorola previously released an Android 9.0 (Pie) update for the Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play, but users of the regular G6 had to wait a little longer. Fortunately, the Pie update is now also available for this smartphone, which means it has been updated to the latest Android version.

The update is rolled out over the air and weighs 1.4 GB. It is smart to download the update via a WiFi connection, to prevent you from running through your data bundle too quickly.

Android Pie introduces improved richer notifications. You can also replace the traditional navigation buttons open at the bottom with new gesture control. Then you swipe up, for example, to go to your home screen, instead of pressing the home button.

Google also relies on artificial intelligence, among other things to improve battery life. AI is also used with ‘Adaptive Brightness’, which automatically adjusts the brightness smarter to your preferences.

More about the Moto G6

Because the Motorola Moto G6 series is part of the Android Enterprise Recommended program, the phones are still supported with updates until May 2021. Most likely there will be no update to Android Q, which will be released later this year. Motorola usually releases one major Android update for Moto G devices, which means that the G6 gets stuck on Android Pie. However, security patches are still being released for a while, which usually appears once every quarter.

The Moto G6 has been available since April last year and is currently available for just over 130 euros. Earlier this year the successors of the device appeared: the Moto G7, Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Power and Moto G7 Play. These devices run out of the box on Android 9.0 and will get Android Q in the future. In our Moto G7 Plus review, you can read about the improvements the most important device from the series is making.
