But again in August?

A high-end tablet from Samsung has been spotted at Geekbench. This is probably the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5, as the successor to the Tab S4. This tablet was announced on August 1, 2018.

Geekbench, a well-known app for testing the performance of a tablet, spotted an unannounced tablet from Samsung. This is a device with the code name SM-T865. We can deduce from this that we are probably dealing with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5, the successor to the high-end Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 with the code name SM-T835. The Tab S4 was announced on August 1, 2018.

From a screenshot put online by Slashleaks – which gives the leak a reliability score of 80% – we see some specifications of this coming tablet. For example, a Snapdragon 855 is being used, the most recent high-end chipset from Qualcomm. A Snapdragon 835 was incorporated in the Galaxy Tab S4.

It is not possible to deduce too much from the clock speeds and scores used in the screenshot above: the initial focus is on making the device work before optimizing performance. In addition, there is 6 GB of memory available compared to the 4 GB of the Tab S4. Finally, we see Android 9.0 Pieper-installed on the device.

If the line of the Tab S4 is continued, the focus of the S5 will be on productivity, including DeX for connecting the tablet to a monitor, an S Pen for sketching and taking notes and the optional Book Cover Keyboard. With the latter, you have both a keyboard and cover for your tablet. The AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 also stood out with the Tab S4. You can read our review here.

In the spring Samsung already came with a tablet in the Galaxy Tab S5 series. This was the cheaper Galaxy Tab 5th for a price of 399 euros. Just like the S4, this tablet has an AMOLED screen, a mid-range Snapdragon 670 and a thin case, but no S Pen for example. We expect that the Tab S5 will be announced around August and, like the Galaxy Tab S4, will be available for a suggested retail price of around 699 euros. In the meantime, this tablet is for sale for around 600 euros.
