LG is behind: Android Pie updates only appear later in 2019

LG Android Pie updatesWhile Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus and others have already released several Android Pie updates, LG is still in the starting blocks. Now it appears that most updates from LG still take a while.

Schedule LG Android Pie updates known

Only the LG G7 ThinQ gets an Android Pie update shortly, according to the Korean manufacturer. The new software for this smartphone will appear in ‘the first quarter of 2019’. However, LG indicates that worldwide rollout will start in this period. Whether the update is available in the Netherlands before the end of March, we do not know yet.

LG does not give details about when other company smartphones are updated, except they are not on the schedule for the first months of 2019. That means that devices like the LG Q7, LG G7 Fit and  LG G6 only in the course of 2019 receive an update.

The LG V40 ThinQ also runs on Android Oreo for the time being. This new top device was released in October by LG in South Korea, and will also be coming to the Netherlands early next year. Although most smartphones that appear in the coming months are directly equipped with Android Pie, the V40 ThinQ is still running on Oreo. When the update for this pricey smartphone appears, is still unknown.

Competition is faster

LG is thus far behind the competition. Samsung, the other big manufacturer from South Korea, released a set of Android Pie updates for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus this month. Huawei, OnePlus, Nokia, Sony, Xiaomi, and others have also released several Android Pie updates.

Recently, Rens wrote about the ‘disaster year’ that LG has had behind it. There he already noticed that the company is starting to lag behind in terms of security updates. For the time being, however, the manufacturer’s tide does not seem to be reversing.
